WordPress Media Settings
Accessing the Media Settings Screen in WordPress
The Media Settings Screen is where you set the default sizes for the images, pictures and photos that you will upload to your WordPress Website for your Pages and Post.
Each time you upload a media file WordPress automatically save three different versions of that file. When WordPress does this it is using the settings found here on the Media Settings Screen to create those files.
One of the things you want to think about is how you are going to prepare any images or photos you are going to place on your website. Optimizing your media files is a good thing to do for many reasons. The pixel size and file size of your images and photos do have an impact on how your website performs. Ideally you want your website to load as quickly as possible with in reason. Once you have figured out what sizes and steps you want to go through when preparing your media files your site should perform equally.
When you upload media files to your WordPress Website it creates three separate versions of that file :
- Thumbnail Size
- Medium Size
- Large Size
On the Media Settings Screen you can specify these sizes in pixels. Select the sizes you find to be best. This may take some experimentation so feel free to try a few different settings until you get the results you are looking for.
Each time you insert a media file using the Add Media Button in the Editor you will have the option to select the size of the file you want to use in that Page or Post.
The other setting you will find on the Media Settings Screen is whether you want to save your media files Organize my uploads into month and year based folders. This is really up to you on how you wish to save and organize your files on your website.
Now that you have logged in to your WordPress site and reviewed the Media Settings Screen what do you do next?
