Post Categories and Post Tags are a very important part when using WordPress as your Blog.
Each time you create a new post you have the option to add Tags to that post. What is a Tag and how is it helpful is the question you are asking.
From the Post Tags Screen you create each tag you wish to use on your Blog. Each tag also has a area for a short description for that tag.
Tags are common terms you will be using on your blog to build up cross references to other similar post of interest or relevance.
The use of both categories and tags not only help you readers find articles of interest they also play a part in Search Engine Organization so pick your tags carefully and stay on topic as much as possible. But same as categories don’t get excessive or over use them as well.
From the Post Tags Screen you will be able to review the tags you have select and the descriptions you have included as well as how many times they have used in your Blog.
Tag Name – The name is how it appears on your site.
Tag Slug – The “slug” is the URL-friendly version of the name. It is usually all lowercase and contains only letters, numbers, and hyphens.
Tag Description – The description is not prominent by default; however, some themes may show it.
Having a WordPress Theme that supports the tag description function is really help however most themes do not utilize this feature for some reason.
